What is nitrous oxide?
Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is a sedative gas that is mixed with oxygen. You then inhale the gas through a comfortable nose mask during your treatment. Nitrous oxide sedation is a great option for our patients who feel anxious or nervous about going to the dentist.
Is nitrous oxide safe?
Nitrous oxide is very safe. It has been used as a form of sedation for many years, and our team will be certain to monitor you throughout your treatment to ensure your comfort and safety. The nitrous oxide will help you feel more relaxed and calm during your treatment at our office. Some patients even experience a floating or euphoric feeling while using nitrous oxide, which is why it is also called laughing gas. Dr. Michael J. Groover can easily adjust the flow of nitrous oxide to accommodate your needs, and once the flow of gas has stopped after your treatment, it takes only a few minutes for the effects to wear off. You will then be able to safely (and legally) drive yourself home. There are very few side effects associated with the use of nitrous oxide, and our dentist will discuss these with you before your treatment.
