Invisalign has become popular with many adults interested in addressing minor alignment issues in their smile. The aligner trays are made from a clear durable plastic that makes it hard for the casual observer to notice you are wearing them.
At the initial appointment your dentist Dr. Groover will inspect your mouth and take a series X-rays to get a clear understanding of your alignment issues. Dr. Groover will then be able to help you define your alignment goals. Once this is done an impression of your bite pattern will be made. This is sent to the Invisalign laboratory where a series of aligners are produced.
You will need to wear the aligners for at least 20 to 22 hours each day. After two weeks you switch to a tray with a slightly different alignment.
You can drink normally, when wearing the aligners, however, you should remove them before eating. You should also avoid chewing gum, smoking or using other tobacco products while the aligners are in your mouth.
Through the course of the realignment process you will need to maintain your regular oral hygiene regimen of brushing and flossing. You should rinse the aligners each day with an antiseptic mouthwash to refresh them and remove plaque and food particles.
