An Introduction to Dental Bridges

Posted .

If you are missing one or more teeth and are considering a replacement, Dr. Michael J. Groover might recommend that you get a dental bridge. Here’s a brief introduction to dental bridges:

What is a dental bridge?

A bridge is a dental device composed of a fake tooth called a pontic with two crowns on either side that are fit over your real teeth. Dr. Michael J. Groover will usually recommend this if the teeth on either side of the gap are weak and need protection.

What is the process of getting a dental bridge?

The process depends on several factors, but here is the general idea:

In order to prepare your teeth for the two crowns, Dr. Michael J. Groover will first reduce their enamel structure. Then he will create a mold of the mouth, especially the area where restoration is needed, to give to a dental lab, which will create your customized dental bridge. Meanwhile, Dr. Michael J. Groover may give you a temporary bridge to fit over the gap.

At your next appointment, we will fit the permanent bridge to your mouth and check that it is secure and aesthetically pleasing. We may schedule a follow-up visit if needed.
