Dental amalgam
Often called, silver-colored fillings, amalgam fillings are made from a combination of metals that include mercury, silver, tin and copper. This method has been used for years by dentists as a cavity filling option. This filling tends to withstand pressure better and is a more affordable.
Silver fillings typically last for 10 to 15 years, outlasting composite fillings. Silver feelings aren’t typically used in front teeth, because they don’t match the natural tooth color.
