Are you tired of your bad breath? If so, you’re not alone. There are many people who suffer from chronic bad breath, which is also known as halitosis. Fortunately, there are many tips and tricks you can use to eliminate your halitosis and achieve the fresh breath you desire. To tell you a little more, Dr. Michael J. Groover and our dental team would like to share those tips with you!
First, keep up on oral hygiene. According to the American Dental Association, it’s best to brush your teeth every morning and every night, floss your smile once a day (preferably at night), and rinse your mouth daily with antibacterial mouthwash. It’s also recommended to brush your tongue after you’ve cleaned your smile. Doing these things will wash foul-smelling food particles and bacteria away and freshen your breath. Also, make sure to attend your six-month checkups. Regular dental checkups will help you combat bad breath, especially if the bad breath results from periodontal disease. So, make sure you visit Dr. Michael J. Groover twice a year.
Second, clean your dental appliances. If you wear dentures, retainers or mouthguards, make sure you clean them at least once a day. If you don’t, the bacteria and food particles can easily cause odorous breath.
Third, moisten your mouth. Because dry mouth is a major cause of bad breath, it’s best to try to moisten your mouth. You can do so by producing as much saliva as possible. To help you, it’s best to eat healthy foods that require a lot of chewing or chew sugar-free gum regularly.
Fourth, quit using tobacco products. Tobacco products, especially cigarettes, cause severe halitosis and alter your health. So, if you quit using these products, your breath and your health can be improved.
