How Do Dental Implants Work?

Is your smile missing a tooth? Are you less confident or willing to share your smile as a result? If you would like to restore your smile and have a full set of teeth once again, we may be able to help. While there may be several options to consider, today we would like to take a closer look at dental implants and how they can improve your dental health.

What are they?
Dental implants are metal posts that are surgically inserted into your jawbone underneath your gums. After the post is in place, our dentist, Dr. Michael J. Groover, can add the prosthetic tooth to complete the restoration.

How do they work?
Because dental implants are inserted into your jawbone, they may be a sturdier restoration than traditional dentures. Additionally, the metal post can fuse to your bone in a process called osseointegration, which may help make the implant nearly as strong as the originally lost tooth.

Once the implant has fused, our dentist can add a customized crown that was made specifically for your smile. This crown was made with the size, color and shape of your teeth in mind so that it could blend in with the remaining teeth. When it has been attached, the restoration may be completed.

For the best chance at success, you should continue to care for your dental implant by visiting Groover Family Dentistry in Savannah, Georgia, at least twice a year and maintaining your regular dental hygiene routine. You can call us at 912-354-9541 to plan your visit with us today!
